Businesses continue to evolve and try to keep up with all of the current trends. One of those trends are the very popular emoji. Who knew that emoticons would evolve into such a popular movement that almost everyone uses daily in their text messages and social media posts?
First, your business can definitely participate in the latest social media trends, as long as it stays appropriate and consistent with your brand. Some careers can go south very quickly if emoji are used the incorrect way. Let’s go over some Do’s and Don’ts for emoji usage:
Do’s of Emoji Usage
- Do use emoji on your company’s social media pages to add personality to your products or services. Add some pizzazz to your online presence with emoji, especially if there are emoji available that represent your company’s products or services.
- Do use emoji if your audience/fan base is receptive to emoji. If your business’s customers are avid social media users and are keen on keeping up with the latest trends, your business can stay relevant with these customers by using emoji and language that they can relate to and engage with.
Don’ts of Emoji Usage
- Don’t use emoji on your business website. Unless you are selling emoji-related products, you should not add emoji to your website, since this can cause your business to lose credibility and look immature.
- Don’t add emoji to your customer service responses. When responding to already frustrated customers, don’t be tempted to soften the blow with emoji. You could make the situation escalate further towards the negative side. This is not a time to be cute!
Emoji can be a great way to interact with clients in a way that shows your business’s casual/playful side. Just be sure to not over-do the emoji and your company should be smooth sailing online.
