Social Media Success Tip #2: Post Content That Reflects Your Brand

Do you ever find yourself at a loss about what to post on your social media accounts?

First, ask yourself:

What kind of content do I like to read? What kind of content do I want my brand to be about?

These questions apply to you, regardless if you are working on your personal brand or your business brand.

For example, my friend Carrie Bohlmann of Body Heal Thyself Massage (and a proud Hashtagitude client!) focuses on these topics on her social media accounts:

  • Holistic Health
  • Fitness
  • Benefits of massage therapy
  • Meditation
  • Spiritual Enlightenment
  • Dalai Lama
  • Movies
  • Dogs

Because Carrie is the sole owner of her massage therapy practice, she wants to have content that both reflects her business, Body Heal Thyself, but also her personal brand. Hence the reason why she also likes to post about her dogs and movies!

If you have multiple people at your business, you will want to have your content reflect your overall brand personality and philosophy. For instance, if you are a business that provides in-home healthcare for seniors and people with disabilities, you may want to include these types of topics in your social media content:

  • Recent research/breakthroughs on diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease
  • News about other in-home healthcare providers in other regions
  • General health tips for seniors or people with disabilities
  • Local events your organization sponsors/participates in
  • Causes your business supports and their events

When it comes to a general posting strategy, keep to the 80-20 rule: eighty-percent of the content you share is informational (both from other sources or from your own blog), while the remaining twenty percent is promotional content for your brand. You want to make sure that you are sharing relevant and valuable information to your audience and not always selling/pitching to them!

So what kind of topics do you want to post about on social media? Answer in the comments below!
